Who are School Social Workers and what do they do?
School Social Workers are trained professionals with a degree in social work who provide services related to students and their family’s social, emotional, and mental health needs. School Social Workers work with students and families to reduce the barriers of learning by providing direct and indirect services. School Social Workers provide crisis intervention, conduct home visits, assess students with mental health concerns and provide therapeutic services or link families to appropriate resources, address issues of attendance and truancy, and case management services. School Social Workers are the link between the home, school and community. School Social Workers work closely with their school district to promote and support the academic and social success of each and every one of their students.
